North Carolina is situated on the Atlantic Seaboard in the southeastern area of the United States of America. It was among the Thirteen Colonies, initially known as Carolina, and the domicile of the earliest English colony in the Americas. On 20 May 1861, it became the last of the associate states to separate from the amalgamation, and again joined on 4 July 1868. It was also the place of the first triumphant mechanical heavier-than-air flight by the Wright brothers at Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk in 1903. Nowadays, it is a rapidly developing state with an increasingly varied financial system and population.

The weather of the state varies from a hot, moist subtropical weather close to the coast to a moist continental weather in the mountains.
